
Tina Estrada, coach of the San Jose State women’s soccer team is on a roll. We discuss Estrada's story and the Spartans' recent successes. We also cover the university’s mental health resources to student-athletes.
Estrada's success
Hanson was Estrada's assistant coach for the San Jose State women's soccer program in 2017. Estrada has a similar history to Hanson. She was an All American college player in soccer and was a member of U.S.'s under-17 national team. Estrada, a Santa Clara forward who was three times all-WCC, also participated in four NCAA tournaments. She was named NSCAA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2015.
Estrada is originally from Fremont, Calif. but she now lives in Walnut Creek. Estrada was the National Assistant Coach of Year. She has coached Spartans to two NCAA Tournaments. Her teams have won five consecutive conference tournaments.

SJSU's recent success
A number of players can be credited for SJSU's recent success with women's soccer. Most notably, Dorthe Hoppius was named the team's MVP, but will not return to the Spartans for the 2018 season. Jamilecxth Becerra, a sophomore, was also named Mountain West Newcomer-of-the Year. She scored seven goals, five of which were game-winning. Darriell Franklin was also named the MW defensive players of the year. He was also selected to the All-MW First Team.
New facilities have contributed to Spartans' recent success. The Spartan Baseball Practice Facility and Spartan Beach are two recent additions to the campus. The Spartans have also added these facilities to their campus. Next year, they will open the Spartan Athletics Center.
Tina Estrada's professional career
Estrada is the interim head coaching of the San Jose State women’s football team. Estrada has been a Spartans assistant since 2004 and most recently was an Associate Head Coach. Lauren Hanson had resigned eight seasons ago. Lauren Hanson was the last person to be named to this position. Hanson was the school's winningest coach.
Estrada was a stellar player at Santa Clara University. Estrada has been an assistant head coach and great assistant for many programs. She is now poised to be one of the top young coaches in Division 1 women's soccer. Estrada has a strong teaching ability, is extremely communicative, and has excellent leadership skills.

SJSU has mental health resources available for student-athletes
SJSU student-athletes have access to many mental health resources. Many resources are geared toward the athletes' specific needs. Support for Sport assists athletes in finding mental health referrals. They also help them talk about mental issues with their teammates. LGBTQ+ Support features stories and perspectives from LGBTQ+ people. ULIFELINE has college mental health resources that are also helpful. Counseling Services also has a student-athlete self-help resource page. Health and Wellness Education also has a website with a variety of information about mental health topics.
SJSU's Counseling and Psychological Services provides quality services to students. This department examines individuals and provides tools and guidance that will help them be productive members of society. The department is located on the third level of the Student Wellness Center and offers counseling for a wide variety of issues.
