Maya April Moore is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Minnesota Lynx. She also speaks on faith, criminal justice advocacy, and is a member of the Passion City Podcast. The church is committed towards radical grace and knowing the truth. Sermons are geared towards whole-life worship and justice. She and her husband, Reggie, began attending six months ago.
Moore played for the Georgia Metros in 2005 and 2006
Maya Moore was an athlete for the Georgia Metros 16U Nike Travel Team between 2005 and 2006. Her team was 73-6 that year, and she won MVP honors. The team won four National Championships. She played with other young players who went on to play basketball at the college level, including Morgan Toles and D'Andra Moss. She was also a member of the University of Connecticut's women's basketball team.
Moore represented the U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team in 2012.
Maya Moore was among four Minnesotans that competed in 2012 for the U.S. Olympic Basketball Team. She was second to be selected to the team. This helped the United States win their gold medal in 2012. Six gold medals were won by the U.S. women’s basketball team in eight games, two of them in London.
Moore's WNBA career has taken a hiatus
Maya Moore has made it clear that she will be leaving the WNBA court for this season. Last time she played for the Minnesota Lynx was in 2018. In February, she said that she would be taking some time off to pursue her ministry dreams and to focus on family. Moore has been working with Jonathan Irons to free him from prison for the crime he committed when he was 16.
Jonathan Irons, Moore’s husband, was convicted of a burglary in 2007 and a shooting in 2007.
Moore met Irons while visiting her godparents, Missouri. She also met Irons' great-uncle who introduced them all to the rest. When Irons was 16 years old, he was convicted of a burglary and shooting at the home of a white man. The homeowner, Stanley Stotler, recognized Irons as the perpetrator. He was convicted of the crime by the jury and sentenced to imprisonment.
Moore proposed a proposal to Irons the night that he was freed
Moore proposed Irons to Irons when a judge revoked his conviction for the aggravated offense. Irons was convicted of aggravated assault. The judge overturned his conviction citing issues with the investigation. The couple has been engaged and plans to establish a foundation that will assist wrongfully sentenced individuals. Moore will return to basketball in spring.
Moore is expecting a boy with Irons
Maya Moore just announced the birth of her first child, Jonathan Irons. The baby boy was delivered in February 2022. The couple married in 2020 after Jonathan was released from prison. It is unknown if the couple still live together. Jonathan and Maya became close friends in prison.
