The Women's National Basketball Association All-Star Game is a yearly exhibition basketball game that features the top players in the Western and Eastern Conferences. The game is broadcast live in the United States, and millions of viewers watch it each year. This is the most watched sporting event in the world, and it is a must see for all basketball lovers.
Sylvia Fowles
Sylvia Fowles received an honorary selection at the WNBA All Star Game. She is currently finishing her final season with the league. Her averages are 14.9 points and 9.2 rebounds. She also has 1.2 steals and blocks. Her team, the Minnesota Lynx is currently at 8-15 and 2.5 games away from the playoffs.
Fowles was a former LSU standout and dunk on a breakaway chance in the second half. Fowles was able to press Team Stewart's ball-handler for a turnover and then stole the ball and slammed it in. Fowles finished the game with seven rebounds and nine points for Team Wilson.
Sue Bird
Sue Bird, a Chicago Bulls player, was named co-captain for the WNBA All-Stars team. Breanna Stewart (also a Chicago Bulls guard) has been named co-captain of the WNBA All-Star team. The game will be played on Sunday, July 10, at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The broadcast will be carried on ABC.
Sue Bird was chosen to participate in the eighth All-Star Game. Sylvia Fowles participated in the 13th All-Star Game. Fowles did a breakaway dunk that got the crowd up and dancing during the first part of the game. After the game, Sue Bird and Fowles were recognized and given a standing ovation.
Arike Ogunbowale
Arike Ogunbowale (a two-time NCAA champion) has been selected as her first WNBA All-Star. She was the Dallas Wings' leading scorer in last season's league and now ranks eighth in points/game. She will likely be an important part in Team USA's preparations of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Chicago will host the WNBA All-Star Game July 9-10. The Saturday night event has special events added by the WNBA. This includes a skills competition, and a three person contest. Ogunbowale hopes that he will be a part of the next All-Star game. In the past, Team USA won the WNBA's inaugural All-Star game.
Kelsey Plum
Kelsey Plum was the Aces' first WNBA All Star Game guard. She scored 30 points in defeat to Team Stewart. Despite being small, Plum was the WNBA All Star Game’s MVP. Plum's MVP trophy was however dwarfed by Kobe Bryant's All Star MVP trophy. Cathy Engelbert, WNBA commissioner brought some humor to this event and presented Plum a new trophy at the end of the game.
Plum claimed she was trying to win the MVP award. She made 12 field goals in the game and took 18 shots, which was an All-Star record. At the moment she averages 19.9 per game. In addition to playing in the WNBA All Star Game, she is also representing the United States in the 3x3 basketball competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Arike Ogunbowale receives the MVP award
Arike Ogunbowale was the MVP of the WNBA all-star game. The Dallas guard played college basketball for Notre Dame. She was the fifth overall pick in the WNBA draft. Vanessa Bryant, Vanessa Bryant's mother, was a fan. Her family voted, so the award for her is special.
The 2021 WNBA All-Star Game saw a lot of changes, but the game still remains an all-star event. Ogunbowale was one of the lone WNBA player to win MVP honors, beating Team USA in the matchup by 93-85. Ogunbowale is also expected to get an opportunity to repeat the feat in two years, as she was named as a reserve for the 2022 WNBA All-Star Game. The game will be held in Chicago, and will be broadcast on ABC.
