France and the United States have been a fierce rival in women’s soccer for over two decades. In the semifinals, the Americans came up short 2-0, but the game was not over. France scored a late goal to go up 2-1. A 6-foot-2 defender, Wendierenard, sent the ball past Alyssa Naeher. The goal is likely to set the stage for more French offensive efforts in the second half. However, the United States still have eight minutes to maintain a draw.

Results for the France World Cup: Uswnt against France

The United States women's national team will face France in the women's world cup. Both teams are experienced in big matches and both have a strong pedigree. France has won two of the three previous meetings and drawn one. France has just won 3-1 over the USA in this match.

The USWNT walked out of the locker-room with a sense urgency. In the first half, Valerie Gauvin's header was blocked by U.S. goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. Soon after, the United States tied the game with a Sam Mewis header. France was losing possession, and it looks like they will play into overtime.

Megan Rapinoe’s performance

Megan Rapinoe’s performance during the US/France world cup 2019 Quarterfinals was an outstanding moment. The American forward scored a brace, and was present throughout the match's first half. She made sure to acknowledge the irony of the situation as she ran away after scoring an early free kick.

Rapinoe scored her first goal in the first half as the United States took the lead. She scored her second goal in half two, which was the difference in this match. The United States led the match 1-0. France came back with a late goal, thanks to Wendierenard's free kick. Rapinoe's goal was her 50th career international goal and helped the United States reach the quarterfinals of the world cup for the first time.

Becky Sauerbrunn performing

Becky Sauerbrunn will co-captain this summer's United States women’s soccer squad in France. USA wants to repeat 2015's World Cup win. During the 2015 World Cup, she played every minute for the team in the center back position. She was an outstanding player at a young age and is now co-captaining the team.

The Americans are a more experienced team but there are still many new players in the squad. Although Sauerbrunn made a critical mistake in the 1-0 victory over Spain, she has learned from it. She was relieved her team made it to the next round after she admitted her error.

Megan Renard's prolific goalscoring record

Megan Renard's exemplary goalscoring record at this world cup makes her a candidate for the Best FIFA Woman's Player award. The 30-year-old is one of France's most decorated players, having won a record 14 French League titles and seven European Cups. Additionally, she has scored over 100 goals in Lyon and 28 for France. Renard is a strong candidate for the award, even though she has only participated in four matches for France. France's place in the tournament was secured by Renard's header in a UEFA Euro 2022 match against Austria.

Renard has also been a scorer in four of the five previous World Cups. This is the longest streak in the tournament's history. She's a skilled attacker whose prolific goalscoring record reflects her skill. She is a powerful striker, has a good left-foot and is capable of scoring from a distance.

USA sues United States Soccer Federation

The U.S. Soccer Federation has been criticized for its stance on the pay dispute between men and women's soccer. The federation's decision to hire lobbyists to oppose the women's team's lawsuit has alienated many sponsors and fans. Similar tactics were used by the women's team, which leveraged social media to take advantage of uncomfortable conversations in court.

A lawsuit against the USSF caused outrage within the soccer community. It accused the federation sexism and discriminatory behavior. The USSF president, Carlos Cordeiro, resigned in March 2020 due to the backlash. Cordeiro was replaced as president by Cone. While Cordeiro is still a USSF board member, he is running for president again.
