In William Shakespeare's play, Malcolm, Macbeth's main character is the king in Scotland. The play is based on the historical king Malcolm III of Scotland, and is a retelling of the Holinshed Chronicles, a history of Britain. Malcolm is the elder child of King Duncan and the heir to the throne. His two brothers are Donalbain (and Macduff) and his ambition and impulsiveness eventually led to his downfall.

Many of us have read some of Norman Malcolm's books, but what is the most influential one? Why is this important? We see that Malcolm is a well-known materialist. This is consistent in his influential writings on mind and nature that were widely read. His writings include Consciousness and Causality, which is a book on the nature of mind, and Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations, which is a collection of essays based on his earlier philosophy.

Perceptual memory

What is the nature or perceptual memory of a person? Researchers have been trying to solve this mystery for years. But the truth may surprise you. According to this theory, the human mind is capable of recalling any past experience by bringing it to memory by a mental image. You might imagine a birthday cake made with twenty candles. Or, you might see yourself sitting at a dinner table with your parents and siblings.

Personal memory

Personal memory describes the way that a person can recall an event. Malcolm states that memory can be divided into two parts: perceptual memory and factual memory. Perceptual memory is the ability to form a mental picture of an object in memory. Personal memory, on the other hand, is an abstract concept. There are individuals who have no perceptual memory but still have normal factual memories. Malcolm examines the differences between these types of memory in his essay.
