LPGA Women's Golfers

If you've ever watched a professional golfer compete, you may have noticed a few female players in very revealing clothing. Paige Spiranac is one example. She was known to wear a small skirt on the golf course before the dress codes were enforced. Male golfers criticized the LPGA for shaming female players. The dress code is now no longer required.

Lexi Thompson

Alexis Noel Thompson, an American professional golfer, plays on the LPGA Tour. She was 12 years of age when she was eligible to play in the U.S. Women's Open. At 15 she became a pro. Since then, she has qualified for many other major championships. Her first LPGA win was June 2016.

She became the youngest female participant in the US Women's Open at twelve years old. By age sixteen, she was the youngest LPGA winner and had won her first tournament. At 20 years old, she has won multiple LPGA tournaments and is considered one of the world's most fit athletes. Each day, she practices for three hours, plays 18 holes, eats lunch, and works out with a trainer. Thompson volunteers her time for charities such as Wounded Warrior Project, in addition to the LPGA Tour.

Although Thompson was one of the hottest players in the world in 2015, she has had a rough year in 2021. She was five shots ahead at the US Women's Open of 2021, but it wasn't enough. She has since won both the LGPA Japan Tour, and the Ladies European Tour. She currently ranks 9th in Rolex Player Rankings. She tied for 17th at the Lotte Championship and the ANA inspiration event last spring. She also missed the chance to win her second major tournament, at Avnet LPGA Classic.

Michelle Maguire

Leona Maguire was the first Irishwoman to win the LPGA Tour Drive On Championship in Florida. The 27 year-old finished on 18 and was three strokes behind Lexi Thompson. Maguire began the season with five birdies, and she finished tied with Marina Alex in the final round. She birdied the 10th through 11th holes and the 13th to take the title.

The 2020 season was mostly good for the Irishwoman. There were some low points at the beginning of the season. She missed the last 16 of the LPGA Match-Play in May, but bounced back to produce her best form during the summer. Maguire believes that she owes her success to the many lessons learned from both bad and good experiences. Positive experiences help build confidence, while negative ones serve as reality checks.

Maguire was also a 2017-18 WGCA All-American Scholars. This is an honorable award given to student athletes who have shown academic and athletic excellence. Maguire's honors include being a captain or team MVP. Lydia Ko's record was broken by Maguire for having spent the most weeks at World Amateur number one. She was also named honorary recipient of the ACC Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship, which recognizes exceptional student-athletes and their intention to earn a graduate degree.
